Audi UK steps up a gear to embrace the enthusiast communities

Over the last 10 years we have enjoyed some very special times with Audi UK.  Recently, Audi UK are really showing that they care about our communities and have employed people to be our dedicated liaisons.

This shift in communication style means that we have established a bidirectional relationship where we are encouraged to provide feedback and in return we get access to some very special events.

RS246 takes first place at the UK forum Audi Driving Experience at Silverstone

Here is our lucky winner of the RS246 Audi Driving Experience phone competition.  Audi asked us to bring along a forum member who would represent their view of the site and what Audi could do for us.  We decided that instead of running a competition, we’d choose someone with no issues holding back on what he thinks….  The one and only Bam_Bam!!

This event was the usual Audi Driving Experience which is highly recommended to anyone who would love to try out a selection of Audi cars closer to the limit than they would usually be prepared to go to in uncontrolled conditions.  Can’t say enough good things about the Audi Driving Experience event, organisation and staff; the perfect day for any car enthusiast!

The toys for the day were the TT RS plus (Fastest car in the world), RS5 and R8 v10 plus.  Morning events included R8 high speed braking and lane change, RS5 cornering on track and a timed slalom in the TT RS.  A spot of lunch and some discussions about how the forums and Audi UK can work together better and then on to the afternoon events; RS5 fast lane change (ESP test) and on track in the TTRS and R8.

The day closed with a thanks to all and an instructors hat presented to the winner of each slalom event.  RS246 took overall first place for the slalom and Bam_Bam’s time in overall second.

Audi RS5 DTM racer revealed at Geneva

The Audi RS5 DTM racecar due to compete in the European touring car series in 2013 has been revealed at the Geneva motor show.

Based on the road-going Audi RS5, the new DTM racer is an evolution of the 2012 car that has spent the winter with the Audi Sport DTM team while they identified if any of the car’s 4000 components could be even further optimised.

While a purpose built racecar, Audi’s head of motorsport, Wolfgang Ullrich, said the RS5 DTM and its namesake road car shared more than just a name.

“The performance data of the current RS5 and RS5 DTM are very similar.”

Member of the board for technical development at Audi, Wolfgang Durheimer, explained the German brand’s relationship between racing and road cars.

“Motorsport is an integral part of the Audi DNA and is not an end in itself for our company,” he said.

“At the end of the day, our customers benefit from the victories on the racetracks, because we attach great value to technology transfer between motorsport and production.”

ABT Sportsline has developed an upgrade kit for the Audi RS5 which will be presented next week in Geneva.

Power comes from the same normally-aspirated V8 4.2-liter engine but instead of 450 HP (331 kW) it now delivers 470 HP (345 kW) thanks to the new exhaust system featuring lateral dual pipes. The standard RS5 needs 4.6 seconds to complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h), while ABT’s version will do it 0.3 seconds quicker.

Sitting on 20-inch alloy wheels, this custom Audi RS5 has a new front apron, front splitter, side skirts and rear wing – all of which are manufactured from carbon fiber. The same material was used for the diffuser and hood.
The interior cabin is decorated in black and red Alcantara with carbon fiber door panels, racing stripes on the bucket seats, along with a stainless steel roll cage and four-point seat belts.
