RS246.com Annual Meet 2013 – Millbrook Proving Ground

Audi UK really went to town for us and put on a wonderful event with great hospitality, a wonderful selection of S and RS models and renowned artist Ian Cook (Pop Bang Colour) creating a unique painting of the new RS6.  We were limited to only 30 attendees but could easily have doubled that.  Next time we will have more!!

Below are a selection of images from the day were teams were sent to try out the various models around Millbrook.  The play areas included the alpine course, high speed bowl and mile straight.  It’s fair to say that the C7 RS6 was the one most wanted to take home 🙂

Congratulations to our award winners who were selected based on the most notable owners’ cars on the day.  Jay for his pristine B7 RS4 and Hamish for his wonderful C5 RS6 plus.

Mk1 TT RS – V6 biturbo

We always knew Audi had some special models hidden in the closet.  Here is one that has appeared recently that shows that Audi does think of those crazy ideas too.

Welcome to the V6 biturbo Mk1 TT RS!!  Don’t be fooled by the pictures, the bottom half is a cut down B5 RS4 (170 mm removed) and the top half is a Mk1 TT body.

Alas there was only one ever made as it was no match for the R8 that filled the gap in the market that this prototype looked to fill.

11,440 bhp!!! That’s the result of the RS246.com Rolling Road Day at AmD Essex

Many thanks to our member “Firestarter” who lived up to his name to put together one of the highest BHP rolling road events in the UK at AmD Essex.

The event had a great turnout with 27 cars; Twenty-two B7 RS4, two C6 RS6, one R8 V10, one B8 RS4 and one B8 S4.  RS246 brought the cars and AmD provided excellent hospitality.

Neckarsulm too small – New production facility for quattro

Fifteen minutes down the road from Neckarsulm is Audi’s Böllinger Höfe facility which will be the new birthplace of the 2014 Audi R8 (and possibly also the RS6 avant).  Audi plan to offset their carbon footprint by using solar power for heal and collecting rain water.  Hopefully this means we can expect more powerful eco-unfriendly cars as an output.

Franciscus van Meel (quattro GmbH Managing Director) is quoted as saying “All of our manufacturing expertise for the R8 will then be completely consolidated under one roof. This will enable us to optimize our production process and further expand our small-scale production expertise at the Neckarsulm site.”

According to Audi, around 250 existing employees will relocate from Neckarsulm to take on new roles at Böllinger Höfe.

Audi already has a history at Heilbronn where Karosserie Drauz, founded in 1900, manufactured carriages and then went on to build car bodies for NSU.  Today the aluminium body of the Lamborghini Gallardo is manufactured there and taken to Neckarsulm for final assembly.
