Audi RS Q3

Making and RS from a Q3 is very Marmite.  The purists would say that an RS is only and RS if it has a Neckarsulm chassis number.  Others would say that an RS is only an RS if it is an avant.  No matter what your RS core values might be, we think that the RS Q3 “could” be an acceptable member of the RS clan based on these pictures.

2013 Audi Sport Quattro – Concept

Lots of excitement around the Audi Sport Quattro Concept.

The Audi quattro concept was first presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2010.  It commemorated the 30th anniversary of the original Audi Quattro and the Audi quattro four wheel drive system.  It was based on the Audi RS5, it featured a modified 2.5L five-cylinder TFSI engine and the sixth generation of quattro transmission.  Reports suggested that Audi were considering a limited production model (200–500 cars) based on the quattro concept, but the project was shelved in 2012.

Now in 2013, Audi presents the Audi Sport in the form of a 700bhp hybrid.  The power is delivered by a 552bhp 4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine (as in the Audi RS6 and RS7) plus a 110kW electric motor (powered by a rear-mounted lithium-ion battery).  The price is expected to be above anything currently offered by Audi so expect to pay in excess of £130,000 if you want one.  Performance wise, claims suggest 3.7sec 0-62 time and a 189mph top speed.

We’re not so sure about the choice of launch colour.  Maybe it looks better in the flesh…

Audi UK @ Audis in the Park

It’s taken just four years for Audis in the Park to become one of the most popular Audi enthusiast meetings in Europe, so we’re very excited to be going along to the event this coming weekend.

We know many of your members will be travelling long distances to be at Audis in the Park, and we’d like to show our appreciation.

The first 500 people to visit the Northampton Audi stand and show the letter they’ll be handed at the event will receive a complimentary gift. It’s our way of saying thank you for their support.

After the event we’d love to see your photos, so please share your favourites with us on our official Audi UK social media channels.

You can find us at:

Audi RS6 and RS7 get new rubber “Pirelli Noise Cancelling System”

Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. has developed tires for Audi Group that are designed to reduce noise for occupants of the car using a layer of polyurethane sponge adhered to the inner liner of the tire.

Pirelli claims the innovation—being pitched as “Pirelli Noise Cancelling System”—can reduce noise heard by those inside the car by 2 to 3 decibels, or roughly half.

With this development, Pirelli is addressing noise caused by the vibration produced when air inside the tire is compressed as the tire is squashed against the road. This noise is transmitted from the tire to the wheel hub and eventually reaches the inside of the car’s cabin via the steering and suspension components.

The polyurethane foam sponge is designed to absorb these vibrations, the tire maker said, and thus reduce the amount of noise passed through to the cabin.

Audi is offering tires built with the noise-cancelling system as optional original equipment fitments on its RS6 and RS7, running on 285/30ZR21- and 275/30ZR21-sized tires, respectively. Pirelli did not identify which tire models are being supplied but said they are identified with letters “PNCS” on the sidewalls.

Pirelli did not say how much weight the sponge adds to the tires but did say adding the noise-reducing sponge does not affect other performance characteristics of the tire. Pirelli did not say whether the development affects noise as observed by those outside a vehicle, nor did it comment on any added cost.

The company said introducing this technology answers growing demand in the automotive world for reduced noise levels both on the inside and outside of the car as well as address the latest European regulations to reduce noise pollution.
